Google Checkout is going away
Google has announced they are retiring their Google Checkout product. According to their support page, Google’s Google Checkout service will end on November 20th, 2013.
It appears as though merchants selling 100% digital goods can transition to Google Wallet for Digital Goods, and merchants and artists selling through Google Hosted sources like Google Play will be unaffected.
ACCORDING TO GOOGLE’S SUPPORT PAGE MERCHANTS SELLING ACTUAL PHYSICAL PRODUCTS (THINGS THAT SHIP) WILL NEED TO FIND OTHER WAYS TO SELL. MERCHANT ISSUED CUSTOMER REFUNDS WILL ONLY BE ALLOWED FOR ONE MONTH AFTER SALES ARE SHUT OFF.
If you are frazzled by this announcement, please don’t be. There are many alternatives, and Google is giving plenty of advanced notice. Indications are they are being helpful to folks as they transition.
